It’s a simple one, but talk in full sentences to your toddler
Use big words—children love them—and be specific. I.e. cardinal and daffodils, instead of bird and flowers.
Sing songs (it’s okay if you can’t sing, your child doesn’t mind)
Recite poems
Read together
Books
For your toddler, books should be:
Easily accessible and available throughout the day
Treated with respect (Model how to turn pages gently)
Choose books with simple story lines based on reality. Here’s a great list.
Reading your own book in front of your child shows that reading is something you value and love
