VISUAL

Activities

  • Ask your child to sort the silverware from the dishwasher to drawer (stick to just forks, spoons and knives, first.)

  • Match the socks from the laundry.

  • Build lego towers of each color.

  • Find little pieces of nature for each color. (Here’s a paper to collect them on.)

  • Fill a jar/bottle with rice and some tiny objects, glue on the lid, and see what you child can find.

  • Draw a picture of all the circular things in the house … now can you find any triangles? … squares?

SOUND

  • Get out those baby rattles, put on some music, and have a dance party … to the beat!

  • Make some good old fashioned shakers with beans and recycled containers.

  • Learn some of the instruments from the orchestra (here). Can you figure out which one is playing when you’re not looking?

  • Find Ella Jenkins, Elizabeth Mitchell, Woody Guthrie, Suni Paz, Lord Invader, on Spotify or Pandora for some kids music you won’t mind so much.

TOUCH

  • Make a mystery bag of 6-10 random objects of various textures. Can your child figure out what you put in there, just by touching.

  • How many textures can you find in nature? How about just the things that fall from trees?

  • Find some socks with different textures. Can your child match them without looking?

  • Have some fun with shaving foam or soap bubbles.

  • Play-dough is fun for any age! Here’s a recipe if you don’t have any.

SCENT

  • Do you have any herbs in the garden/fridge? Play a little blindfolded guessing game. You could also try, condiments, spreads (like jam, pb, honey), fruits, essential oils, tea, or spices (but be careful with these!)

TASTE

  • Do a taste test for snack! Take a few things from the pantry/fridge and eat blindfolded.
